In the demographics domain (Use Case 5), led by IEGD-CSIC, the objective is to enable secure access and analysis of socio-demographic and health microdata, which are highly valuable for researchers across multiple scientific disciplines but are typically subject to strict access restrictions, including user clearance procedures and the use of physically secured environments.
To address these limitations, the use case provides a set of tools aimed at improving data anonymisation, enabling the generation of synthetic or designed populations whose data can be safely shared without privacy concerns. In addition, it promotes systems that allow data to be analysed in a reproducible and FAIR manner without requiring direct access to sensitive datasets.
Furthermore, the implementation of a pilot Intermediate Data Center is explored as a way to alleviate current challenges faced by statistical data producers. These include increasing societal demand for more detailed and timely data on emerging topics such as globalisation, welfare indicators beyond GDP, cohabitation and longevity, as well as the need for higher data disaggregation and quality assurance in a context of limited resources within National Institutes of Statistics.
