SIESTA fosters debate at the First Conference on Cryptography and Data Privacy in Spain

The European project EOSC-SIESTA will actively contribute to the “I Jornadas sobre Criptografía Aplicada a la Seguridad y la Privacidad en Ciencia de Datos” taking place at the International Centre for Mathematical Meetings (CIEM) in Castro Urdiales, Cantabria, Spain.

The event, organised by the University of Cantabria–INCIBE Chair on New Challenges in Cybersecurity and the Institute of Physics of Cantabria (IFCA, CSIC–UC), will bring together researchers, experts in security, cryptography and data science, as well as PhD students, to discuss the key challenges of data protection in an increasingly digitalised world.

A framework aligned with SIESTA’s KERs

One of the major challenges addressed by EOSC-SIESTA is ensuring the security and privacy of sensitive data throughout its entire lifecycle: from acquisition and storage to their use in artificial intelligence models. Fields such as medicine, demography and epidemiology rely on highly valuable and sensitive data, requiring innovative solutions that enable secure analysis within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

The conference programme reflects these objectives, with sessions structured around four main topics:

  1. Secure data transfer and cloud computing, including trusted architectures, attribute-based encryption and access control.
  2. Classical and post-quantum cryptography, focusing on algorithms designed to withstand the impact of quantum computing.
  3. Security and privacy in artificial intelligence, with advances in federated learning and mechanisms to prevent attacks on machine learning systems.
  4. Homomorphic encryption and privacy-enhancing technologies, enabling the processing and analysis of encrypted data without compromising confidentiality.

SIESTA’s involvement in this initiative highlights the project’s commitment to fostering collaboration between research groups and industry, and to promoting innovative solutions that strengthen the secure management of sensitive data.
