EOSC-SIESTA took part in the UIMP course “Data in the scientific space: a journey from creation to knowledge”, where David Rodríguez, research scientist at the Institute of Physics of Cantabria (IFCA), a joint centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Cantabria (UC), delivered the talk “SIESTA Project: using trusted environments for research with sensitive data”. His session took place on Tuesday, 25 August, at 12:45, on the second day of the course.
Held in Santander from 24 to , the course is organised by CSIC’s PTI Ciencia Digital (Digital Science thematic platform) and brings together researchers, postgraduate students and technical staff to explore the full data life cycle — from acquisition through processing to publication, storage and reuse — addressing its technical, ethical and sustainability dimensions within the framework of European and national data policies and the FAIR and open-science principles.
In his talk, David Rodríguez presented how SIESTA tackles one of the central challenges of data-driven research: allowing researchers to analyse sensitive data while fully preserving privacy and confidentiality. He introduced the project’s trusted, cloud-based environments, which enable sensitive datasets to be processed securely and reproducibly, together with the anonymisation tools and methodologies SIESTA is developing to make the secure sharing of such data possible across the EOSC.
